Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is accountable for the strategic and operational management of all Engineering activities across the Supply Chain facilities. This includes ensuring full compliance with statutory regulations, company engineering standards, and industry best practices. The role encompasses leadership of maintenance systems, capital investment projects, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant reliability and operational efficiency.

Outputs

  • Ensure rigorous compliance with all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements, implementing robust engineering procedures and standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce engineering policies, procedures, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Direct and strategically lead the operational engineering function to achieve manufacturing performance targets and cost objectives.
  • Lead and manage capital expenditure projects, ensuring optimal design, procurement, and commissioning of equipment.
  • Drive productivity improvements through advanced automation technologies and process optimization.
  • Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and technical training programs, including artisan development initiatives.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and strategic support to operations and senior management teams.

Key Competencies

  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of engineering principles, maintenance strategies, and asset management systems.
  • Relevant academic qualifications: Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering degree/diploma (NQF 6) and a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in FMCG or manufacturing environment, with at least 2–3 years in a Senior Engineering leadership role.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results under high-pressure conditions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, coupled with strategic and innovative thinking.
  • Expert knowledge of OHS Act and compliance requirements for engineering operations.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and communication capabilities.

General Information

  • Position location at the Langeberg Foods facility in Ashton, Western Cape.

Position will report to the COO and work alongside Senior Leadership of the facility
