Buyer (Retail Procurement – Groceries and Condiments)

Reporting to the Senior Manager Procurement, the incumbent forms part of a Category Management team responsible for the development and execution of the Category Procurement strategy, with a specific focus on sourcing RETAIL PROCUREMENT (condiments and groceries).
Minimum Requirements
- B Degree (Procurement)
- 2 Years related experience with retail procurement preferably within the FMCG environment (FMCG categories)
- Specialization in Procurement & Data Analytics would be an advantage
- A strong Category specific background and product knowledge with a keen interest to learn procurement will be considered
- Proficient in use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel (advanced))
- Demonstrated negotiation skills
- Own transport and a valid driver’s license are required as candidates must be prepared to travel for work purposes
- The candidate must be willing to work long hours during peak times
Duties
Growth
- Serves as the company’s central point of contact for suppliers
- Identifies and drives opportunities to rationalise products and to reduce complexity
- Participates in Category specific product development initiatives
- In conjunction with the Category team, establishes seasonal demand and procurement plans
- In conjunction with the Category team, establishes optimal stock assortments per branch
Optimisation
- Negotiates ad hoc purchase prices and term deals with suppliers
- Resolves pricing discrepancies and claims with suppliers
- Assesses supply and quality risks and evaluates supplier capacity and capability to ensure supplier selection supports the execution of the Category strategy
- Purchases products based on demand plans as well as abnormal demand requirements from branches
- Monitors and evaluates supplier performance to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Proactively identifies and communicates Category specific supply constraints to the business to be prepared for and to minimize supply disruptions

- Develop and maintain sound supplier relationships
- Collaborate with both internal and external key stakeholders to form a consolidated view of customer and business requirements relating to the Category

- Records and maintains accurate purchase price files in the ERP system
